Beloved Papercut card by Jerise Fogel
A beautiful way to say "I love you." Entwined trees with branches and roots, and in between them sits Hebrew lettering from Song of Songs: "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine" ("ani l'dodi v'dodi li"). These papercut designs are each cut by hand: papercutting is a traditional Jewish art. Cards are approximately 4.25"x5.5” (A2 size envelope included), and are also suitable for framing.

Each background is also done by hand, using gouache and ink. Almost any background color or color combination available--just ask!

Sutzkever Cards (box of 12) by Jerise Fogel
"What can I do in such an hour, O my thousand-colored world, except gather this red beauty into the wind's purse and bring it home for supper?" --Abraham Sutzkever

The poem from which these lines come is titled "On my Wandering Flute," that is, a song/poem played on the flute that I play when I travel places (Af mayn Vanderfayfl). Abraham Sutzkever (1913-2010) was an acclaimed Yiddish poet, a member of the Yung Vilne Yiddish poetry movement of the 1930s, and a Holocaust survivor and founder of the Yiddish language poetry journal, Di Goldene Keyt (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Sutzkever). Sunset colors; the original was lettered, then screenprinted by hand, then reproduced.

Yes, Yiddish is written with Hebrew letters! Blank inside. English translation (by Ruth Whitman) on back.

You will receive 12 cards, 5"x5", printed professionally onto heavyweight cold press watercolor paper, with gold envelopes. I also have a few of the original series of screenprints available--email me to ask about these if you are interested.
